About Radium Palace Spa and Wellness
Radium Palace Spa and Wellness, Czechia is the world's first radium spa hotel and the birthplace of radiobalneology, at T.G. Masaryka 413 in Jachymov, Karlovy Vary Region. The 5-storey neoclassical palace was completed in 1912 for a company founded by Count Ernst Silva-Tarouca and was one of the most modern spa hotels in Central Europe at opening. Early guests included Egyptian King Fuad I, Richard Strauss, and Marie Curie, who visited Jachymov in 1925. The hotel was renovated in 1996 and 1997, preserving its historic character and marble interiors.
Radon baths are administered directly in the hotel using water from the Svornost mine, the oldest continually operating mine in the world (since 1525). Baths are conducted at 36 degrees Celsius in stainless steel tubs filled slowly from the bottom. The standard programme includes 21 doctor-prescribed procedures per week: 6 radon baths plus 5 major and 10 minor treatments. All radon cures require a physician prescription. Outside therapy hours, guests access the wellness area (approximately 90 minutes daily) including a pool, whirlpool, Kneipp path, and steam bath. The hotel has 305 beds including 8 wheelchair-adapted rooms, 6 luxury suites, and five dining rooms. The Aqua Centrum Agricola is 100 metres away.

Safety & Etiquette
Radium Palace Spa and Wellness Safety Tips
Radium Palace Spa and Wellness is generally safe as a medically supervised spa hotel with 24-hour physician cover. The main safety considerations are the radon bath protocol, the radiation dose, and the medical contraindications for radon therapy.
All radon cures are prescribed by the on-site doctor following a medical assessment on arrival; do not attempt self-directed radon bathing without this assessment. The radiation dose absorbed during a full radon bath course is controlled and monitored; total exposure over a standard stay is comparable to a single medical X-ray. Radon baths are contraindicated in pregnancy, active infections, certain thyroid conditions, active cancers, and some cardiovascular conditions. Inform the physician of all diagnoses and current medications at the initial examination. Radon bath temperature is 36 degrees Celsius; patients are assisted by trained staff. Six baths per week is the standard protocol; do not exceed the prescribed number. Rest for at least 20 minutes after each radon bath before any other activity.
In the wellness area, the pool, whirlpool, and steam bath require standard precautions: shower before entering the pool, limit Kneipp path sessions as instructed, and hydrate throughout. Guests with heart conditions or pacemakers should confirm with the on-site doctor before using the steam bath. Eight wheelchair-adapted rooms are available; request one at booking if needed. Driving to the hotel involves steep Ore Mountains roads; check road conditions in winter before travel, as snowfall can be significant at altitude.
