Deokgu Oncheon Spa World, South Korea is a hot spring resort in Buk-myeon, Uljin-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do, set in the Deokgu valley at the foot of Eungbongsan Mountain, east of Taebaeksan. Designated Gyeongsangbuk-do's No. 1 National Hot Spring by the Ministry of the Interior, it holds the distinction of being Korea's only hot spring where water rises naturally to the surface under its own geothermal pressure, without mechanical pumping. The spring maintains 42.4 degrees Celsius and is lightly alkaline, containing sodium bicarbonate, potassium, calcium, iron, and carbonic acid. The hot spring was first discovered approximately 600 years ago during the late Goryeo Dynasty and modern facilities have operated since 1983. Spa World and a separate traditional public bathhouse both draw from the same natural spring. The complex is connected to Deokgu Hot Spring Hotel, with hotel guests receiving discounted access. Getting to Deokgu Oncheon Spa World
Deokgu Oncheon Spa World is located at 924 Deokguoncheon-ro, Buk-myeon, Uljin-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do, approximately 20 kilometres north of Uljin town in the Deokgu valley. The facility is approximately 4 to 5 hours from Seoul by car, making it more practical as an overnight destination than a day trip from the capital. From Uljin town, drive north via Route 36 to reach the resort.
By public transport, take a bus from Uljin Bus Terminal toward the Deokgu area. Services are limited on this route; confirm current schedules before travel and plan accordingly to avoid missing the last return bus. Taxis from Uljin town are a more reliable option for day visitors. The nearest major city with frequent bus connections to Seoul is Pohang, approximately 90 kilometres to the south, from which buses reach Uljin in about 2 hours.
The traditional public bathhouse is open daily from 06:00 to 22:00. Spa World operates weekdays 10:00 to 19:00 and weekends and public holidays 10:00 to 20:00. High season runs mid-December through March 1, mid-July through August, and during Chuseok; prices are higher during these periods. Swimwear and swimcaps are mandatory in Spa World; rental sets are available on site. Free parking is available at the resort.

Deokgu Oncheon Spa World is professionally staffed. The natural spring temperature is 42.4 degrees Celsius, and pools reach up to 43 degrees Celsius. Limit soaking sessions to 15 minutes in the hottest pools, alternate with the cool jade stone pool, and drink water regularly throughout the visit. Dehydration and overheating can occur even in well-run facilities if soaking sessions are not managed.
Swimsuits and swimcaps are required throughout Spa World without exception; those without a swimcap must purchase or rent one on site. Pool decks and changing areas can be slippery when wet; walk carefully and use provided footwear in communal areas. Supervise children at all times near pool edges.
The facility is remote, approximately 4 to 5 hours from Seoul. Confirm return transport before arriving: note the last bus departure from Uljin town, or have a taxi contact ready if not driving. Driving the mountain road through Deokgu valley after dark requires care, particularly in wet or icy winter conditions.
Pregnant visitors and those with cardiovascular conditions, neuralgia, rheumatism, or diabetes are among those for whom therapeutic hot spring bathing is traditionally promoted in Korea, but all such visitors should confirm suitability with a healthcare provider.
