Suitability & Accessibility
Who SPA Hotel Medicus Suits

The low-key, nature-focused character of Varshets is different from the larger spa resorts around Bansko or Sandanski; it suits visitors who prefer calm over activity.

Klisura Monastery, 8 kilometres from the hotel in a dramatic Iskur gorge setting, is one of the most visited monasteries in northwestern Bulgaria. Vratsa, approximately 40 kilometres east, has the Vratsa Historical Museum and access to the Vratsa Gorge and the Ledenika Cave. For visitors looking for hot springs near Montana Bulgaria, Varshets is the primary mineral spa destination in the region. Berkovitsa, a historic mountain town, is approximately 15 kilometres northwest.

Safety & Etiquette
SPA Hotel Medicus Safety Tips
SPA Hotel Medicus is a professionally managed four-star facility. The mineral water is used at 36-38 degrees Celsius in the pools and treatments, close to body temperature; this is a therapeutic bathing range recommended for extended use. People with specific medical conditions including gastrointestinal or cardiovascular issues should consult a physician before starting a balneotherapy course, as the cumulative effect of repeated mineral bathing over several days is more significant than a single session. Drink the mineral water offered at the hotel in moderate amounts; it has therapeutic properties when consumed but should not be used as a substitute for regular water intake.
The Finnish and infrared saunas require standard sauna protocols: shower before entry, limit sessions to 10-15 minutes for Finnish and 20-30 minutes for infrared (which is milder), and cool down fully at the jacuzzi or pool before re-entering. The steam bath is less intense than the Finnish sauna and is a good first step for guests new to thermal wellness. The hydromassage tubs and 3 jacuzzis add circulation benefits beyond simple soaking; limit sessions to 15-20 minutes. Children's pool access requires constant adult supervision.
The outdoor pool operates seasonally; confirm current availability with the hotel before visiting if the outdoor pool is a priority. Grip sandals are recommended on all pool surrounds and sauna areas. Book spa treatments in advance as the 30-plus treatment menu is popular and slots fill quickly on weekends. The hotel is in a quiet spa town; keep noise levels appropriate. Check the EV charging station availability before arrival if travelling by electric car, as there are two chargers on site.
