About Hotel Thermal Pool (Saunia Thermal Resort)
Hotel Thermal Pool, Czechia refers to the Saunia Thermal Resort, the outdoor thermal pool and sauna complex that opened in 2022 at Hotel Thermal, at Ivana Petrovice Pavlova 2001/11 in Karlovy Vary. The resort is perched on a clifftop above the spa quarter and accessed through the hotel lobby via a pool elevator. It offers what is described as the only place to swim in completely natural, untreated Karlovy Vary spring water at full source temperature.
The complex has two outdoor pools. The thermal pool contains 110,000 litres of 100% natural Karlovy Vary spring water at 38 degrees Celsius year-round, completely untreated and changed daily. The relaxation pool operates at 32 degrees Celsius year-round, has 25-metre lap lanes in the centre, and water attractions around its perimeter. Both pools are outdoor and open year-round with panoramic views over the spa centre. The sauna world has 8 saunas across 6 different types and temperature ranges over two floors, connected directly to the pool. Sauna ceremonies are held daily. A pool bar, restaurant, and terrace are on-site. Hotel Thermal guests receive 2-hour access per night stay; non-hotel visitors can enter on a paid day-entry basis.

Suitability & Accessibility
Who Hotel Thermal Pool (Saunia Thermal Resort) Suits
Hotel Thermal Pool (Saunia Thermal Resort) suits visitors to Karlovy Vary who want the most direct and pure form of thermal spring bathing the town offers: a large outdoor pool filled with 100% untreated Karlovy Vary mineral water at 38 degrees Celsius from the Vridlo spring, with panoramic views over the city. This is distinct from most spa hotel pools in Karlovy Vary, which typically dilute or temper the mineral water. For visitors who want to experience the town's famous spring water at full strength in a purpose-built outdoor setting, this is the primary option.
The clifftop outdoor setting makes the resort attractive in all seasons, particularly striking in winter when steam from the 38-degree water rises against cold air and the view of the spa town below is at its most dramatic. The combination of the thermal pool, the 32-degree relaxation pool with lap lanes, and the 8-sauna world provides a full-day programme without leaving the site. Hotel Thermal guests receive included access per night stay. Non-hotel visitors can enter the resort on a day-entry or session basis.
The resort is also suited to active visitors who want to combine lap swimming in the 32-degree pool with thermal soaking and sauna cycling, creating a full contrast therapy circuit in one outdoor clifftop location. The panoramic views are considered by many visitors to be the most distinctive visual feature of any pool in Karlovy Vary.
Safety & Etiquette
Hotel Thermal Pool Safety Tips
Hotel Thermal Pool (Saunia Thermal Resort) is generally safe as a managed commercial thermal resort open year-round, but the 38-degree natural spring water requires specific attention. The main safety considerations are the thermal pool temperature, the outdoor clifftop setting, and sauna use.
The thermal pool operates at 38 degrees Celsius year-round with completely untreated spring water. The official guidance is to limit individual soaking sessions to 20 minutes maximum, then exit to the pool deck or relaxation area to cool down, and re-enter for further sessions; 6 to 10 repetitions per visit is the stated ideal pattern for health benefits. Do not exceed the 20-minute session guideline, particularly on your first visit or if you are unaccustomed to hot water immersion. People with cardiovascular conditions, low blood pressure, or any condition where heat exposure is contraindicated should consult a doctor before using a 38-degree pool. In winter the air-to-water temperature contrast is extreme when exiting the pool; move calmly and do not rush from warm water to cold air.
In the sauna world, follow standard protocol: 10 to 15 minutes per round maximum, cool down fully between sessions using the cooling facilities, and hydrate throughout. The clifftop terrace and pool deck are at height; maintain awareness of the edge areas, particularly in wet conditions when surfaces can be slippery. Children must be supervised at all times near the pool edges and terrace areas. The elevator access through the hotel is the main entry point; allow extra time if travelling with mobility equipment.
