What is Thermalium in Teplice?
Thermalium is an indoor thermal pool complex on the first floor of the Beethoven Spa House at Laznensky sad 2, Teplice. Part of Lazne Teplice v Cechach a.s. Opened 2019 after a reconstruction worth a quarter of a billion Czech crowns. The largest, warmest, and most modern thermal pool in the Czech Republic filled with undiluted Pravridlo spring water (18,000 years in volcanic massif). Two pools: 35 degrees Celsius therapeutic bath (hundreds of massage jets, 420m2 combined water area) and 29 degrees Celsius swimming pool (20m). Kneipp path. Five saunas: Finnish (95°C), salt (90°C), tropical (40°C), bio (55°C), steam (40°C). Open daily 08:00-21:00. Children from age 3. Indoor only.
Is the Teplice Thermalium water really undiluted spring water?
Yes. Thermalium and the official Lazne Teplice sources specifically state that the Pravridlo water is completely undiluted, unlike other Czech spa pools that dilute their thermal water due to limited spring volume. The Pravridlo (Primary Hot Spring) is the dominant thermal spring of Teplice, with a high flow rate that enables filling of the 420-square-metre pool complex with pure spring water. The water has been flowing through the volcanic massif beneath Teplice for 18,000 years, accumulating minerals and rare elements. Its composition prevents osteoporosis, helps delay joint degeneration, and improves joint mobility. The total water area is refreshed on a two-hour cycle.
What saunas does Thermalium have and how are they different?
Thermalium has five sauna types covering the full spectrum of sauna experience. The Finnish sauna (95 degrees Celsius, below 10% humidity) is the hottest and most traditional, suitable for experienced sauna users. The Finnish salt sauna (90 degrees, below 10% humidity) adds salt minerals to the dry heat experience. The bio sauna (55 degrees, 40-60% humidity) is gentler with herbal aromas, suitable for those new to saunas. The tropical sauna (40 degrees, 20-40% humidity) is the mildest heat with high moisture and tropical plant aromas. The steam sauna (40 degrees, 100% humidity) is the most humid and is particularly effective for respiratory health. Each is suited to a different tolerance level; beginners should start with the tropical or bio sauna.
Who was Beethoven's connection to Teplice?
Ludwig van Beethoven visited Teplice in 1811 and 1812 during some of the most productive periods of his career. During his 1812 stay he composed the symphony sketches later known as the seventh and eighth symphonies, and wrote the famous unsent letter to his Immortal Beloved, which was discovered in Teplice after his death. He also met Goethe in Teplice in 1812, a famous encounter documented in Goethe's own diary. The Beethoven Spa House (Laznensky dum Beethoven) is named in his honour. The Teplice spa also attracted numerous other cultural figures including Wagner, Chopin, Liszt, Tsar Peter I, and Paracelsus.

Suitability & Accessibility

Who Thermalium Suits

Thermalium suits day visitors and tourists who want the Czech Republic's largest and most modern thermal pool experience in the oldest spa town in Central Europe; active swimmers who want a 20-metre rehabilitative thermal lap pool; visitors focused on musculoskeletal recovery who want access to 35-degree therapeutic water with hundreds of massage jets; and families with children aged 3 and over who want a premium indoor thermal facility. Unlike some Czech spa pools, Thermalium is open to the public without a medical referral or hotel stay requirement.

The Beethoven Spa House setting is historically remarkable. The building has housed spa guests since the 14th century and is named after Ludwig van Beethoven, who visited Teplice in 1811 and 1812 and wrote some of his most important works during his stays. The Swiss physician Paracelsus listed Teplice among the ten most important spas in the world. The wider Teplice spa complex includes the Chateau Garden, spa park, fountains, colonnades, and several other lazne buildings within easy walking distance. Hot springs near Teplice Czechia include the Stone Spa House (Kamenne lazne) thermal pool and the Nove Lazne children's sanatorium rehabilitation pools, all within the same spa quarter.

Wheelchair access to Thermalium has not been confirmed. The Beethoven Spa House has a lift to the first floor, which assists access; however, the specific accessibility of the pool and sauna areas is not documented in official sources. Contact lazneteplice.cz before visiting to confirm current provisions.

Safety & Etiquette

Thermalium Safety Tips

Thermalium lists specific contraindications for the thermal pools: all acute-stage diseases (feverish, inflammatory, infectious conditions such as influenza, diarrhoea, and vein inflammation) and serious cardiovascular conditions (hypertension above 100 diastolic, severe heart rhythm disorders) are grounds for not entering. Do not use the pools if you are unwell with an active infection. The therapeutic bath at 35 degrees is designed for a maximum of 20-30 minutes per session; repeated shorter sessions are more beneficial than one long session. Exit the pool if you feel faint, overheated, or unwell at any point. Stay hydrated throughout your visit.

The sauna world at Thermalium spans a wide temperature range: from the steam sauna at 40 degrees to the Finnish sauna at 95 degrees. Shower before entering any sauna; start with the lower-temperature saunas (tropical, bio, steam) before the Finnish if unaccustomed to high heat. Limit Finnish sauna sessions to 8-12 minutes. Cool fully between rounds before re-entering. The Kneipp path alternates warm and cold water for the legs; walk at a slow pace and allow full temperature contrast at each section. Sauna access is purchased as an add-on and is one-time only; the sauna surcharge does not extend the total time of entry.

Children from age 3 are admitted when accompanied by an adult at all times; supervise children closely on pool surrounds. Bathing clothes, a towel, and appropriate footwear (grip sandals) are required for entry; barefoot access on pool surrounds is not permitted. Sanitation day (first Tuesday of each month) means the complex opens at noon rather than 08:00; plan accordingly. Tickets cannot be exchanged or changed once the turnstile has been passed.
