About Bogacs Thermal Spa and Outdoor Bath Complex, Hungary
Bogacs Thermal Spa and Outdoor Bath Complex, Hungary is a public gyogyfurdo at Dozsa Gyorgy utca 16 in Bogacs, Borsod-Abauj-Zemplen County, in the foothills of the Bukk Mountains at the heart of the Bukkalja wine region. Thermal water was first discovered in 1955 during oil exploration drilling, with further drilling in 1959 producing a sustainable source. The first public bath was built in the 1970s, and the water received medicinal certification in 2001. The sulphurous water rises from 485 to 491 metres at 70 to 76 degrees Celsius, rich in calcium, magnesium, and sulphur, and is recommended for musculoskeletal, joint, and circulatory conditions.
The complex operates 11 pools: 6 medicinal thermal pools (one indoor), 2 children's pools, 1 swimming pool, 1 indoor adventure spa, and 1 indoor children's adventure spa. In high season all 11 open; out of season the 6 medicinal pools and indoor adventure spa remain available year-round. A children's water park with slides has operated since 2014. A sauna world with regular infusion sessions and night bathing are also available. Bogacs is 15 km from Eger and 12 km from Mezokovesd, making it one of the more accessible hot springs in Hungary near the Bukk National Park.

Suitability & Accessibility
Suitability at Bogacs Thermal Spa
Bogacs Thermal Spa suits families, visitors seeking sulphurous medicinal thermal water for musculoskeletal and joint conditions, and those wanting a well-equipped outdoor bath complex in a scenic Bukkalja setting, as the combination of 6 medicinal pools, a children's water park, indoor adventure facilities, night bathing, and sauna infusions serves a wide range of visitor types year-round.
Families are well served by the outdoor children's water park with slides that operates seasonally alongside the outdoor pools, the dedicated children's pools both outdoors and in the indoor adventure spa, and the playground in the outdoor area. The indoor adventure spa and indoor children's adventure spa mean that family visits remain practical in cooler months and out of season. The sauna world with organised infusion sessions suits wellness visitors who want a structured bathing programme.
For those attending primarily for therapeutic purposes, the 6 medicinal pools containing the certified sulphurous Bogacs water are open year-round, with the indoor medicinal pool providing a sheltered option in any weather. The water is indicated for rheumatic disease, joint wear, and circulatory conditions. The therapeutic offer at Bogacs is more limited than at full-service gyogyfurdo facilities with on-site medical departments, but the quality of the medicinal water and the year-round indoor medicinal pool access make it a practical choice among the hot springs in Hungary in the Borsod-Abauj-Zemplen region for visitors in the northern Hungarian foothills.
Safety & Etiquette
Bogacs Thermal Spa Safety Tips
Bogacs Thermal Spa is generally safe for all visitor groups as a staffed year-round complex, with standard thermal bathing precautions applying to the medicinal pools and the indoor adventure facilities.
The medicinal pools contain certified sulphurous thermal water. Standard gyogyfurdo guidance applies: limit soaking time in the hottest pools to around 20 minutes, rest between sessions, and drink water regularly. Visitors with cardiovascular conditions, skin conditions, or those taking medication should consult a doctor before undertaking repeated therapeutic immersion in sulphurous water. The off-season medicinal pools are the same composition as those available in high season; only the outdoor recreational pools close during cooler months.
The children's water park and slides are seasonal and carry height and age restrictions posted at each entrance. Parents should supervise children at all times in and around all pool areas, including the indoor children's adventure spa during off-season visits. The night bathing option means reduced ambient light around the outdoor pools after dark; visitors should take extra care around pool edges and steps. The sauna infusion sessions are led by trained staff and are suitable for regular sauna users; first-time visitors should start with shorter sessions. Swimwear is required throughout the facility. The surrounding Bukkalja terrain and proximity to wine cellar areas means that some visitors arrive as part of longer excursions; adequate hydration throughout the day is important when combining outdoor activity with thermal bathing.
