About Saliris Thermal and Spa, Hungary
Saliris Thermal and Spa, Hungary is a resort gyogyfurdo at Forras utca 6 in Egerszalok, Heves County, built at the foot of the travertine salt hill, the only such formation in Europe. The thermal water source was discovered in 1961 during oil drilling at 426 metres depth and surfaces at 65 to 68 degrees Celsius. The Ministry of Health certified it as medicinal water in 1992. The calcium-magnesium hydrogencarbonate water with significant sulphur and 18 trace elements is indicated for musculoskeletal, spinal, joint, and metabolic conditions.
The name Saliris means salt rainbow, referring to the salt hill the resort faces. The spa opened 14 July 2007 and is part of Hunguest Hotels. The 17-pool complex has 1,900 square metres of water surface including medicinal sitting pools, cave pool, jacuzzi, adventure pools, children's pools and slide, Kneipp foot basin, and echo pools. Children under 14 are not permitted in the medicinal pools. The Sauna Oasis has two indoor Finnish saunas, bio sauna, thermium, steam room, and aroma cabin, plus outdoor Finnish and Russian log sauna houses described as the first in Hungary, with ice, beer, honey, and salt ceremonies. The 203-room hotel is connected via a glass corridor in a 17.5-hectare pine park, 6 kilometres from Eger.

Suitability & Accessibility
Suitability at Saliris Thermal and Spa
Saliris Thermal and Spa suits couples, families with older children, and therapeutic visitors seeking a resort spa with a genuinely distinctive setting, as the combination of the travertine salt hill backdrop, 17 pools, an elaborate Sauna Oasis with Hungary's first outdoor log sauna houses, and direct hotel integration makes it one of the more complete resorts among the hot springs in Hungary in the Northern Hungary region.
Families with children aged 14 and over can use all 17 pools. The children's pools and slide are open to younger children, but those under 14 are not permitted in the medicinal pools. Parents should check pool restrictions on arrival. Hotel guests at the Hunguest Saliris can access the spa directly via the glass corridor and use the pools included in the room rate; the Sauna Oasis requires a separate supplement.
For therapeutic visitors, the medicinal calcium-magnesium hydrogencarbonate water with significant sulphur is indicated for degenerative and spinal disorders, joint disease, neurological complaints, and metabolic conditions. Day visitors may also purchase spa entrance tickets separately from hotel accommodation. Wheelchair-accessible rooms and pathways are available in the hotel, and the facility includes 3 rooms specifically designed for disabled guests. The 17.5-hectare pine forest park setting near the Matra and Bukk mountain ranges and the Valley of the Beautiful Women wine valley near Eger make Egerszalok a strong choice for visitors pairing a gyogyfurdo stay with local sightseeing.
Safety & Etiquette
Saliris Thermal and Spa Safety Tips
Saliris Thermal and Spa requires standard thermal bathing precautions, with additional awareness needed around the medicinal pool restrictions and the Sauna Oasis, which operates at elevated intensity compared to most Hungarian baths.
The medicinal sitting pools use a sulphurous calcium-magnesium hydrogencarbonate water. Children under 14 are not permitted to use the medicinal pools; they may use the children's pools and adventure pools. This is an official health restriction, not just a hotel rule. Visitors with cardiovascular conditions, pregnancy, or other listed contra-indications should consult a doctor before using the medicinal pools. Limit soaking time in the medicinal pools to around 20 minutes and rest between sessions. The sulphur odour is noticeable and normal.
The Sauna Oasis requires a separate supplement and includes both intense Finnish saunas and the outdoor Russian and Finnish log sauna houses. Ice, beer, honey, and salt ceremony sessions are led by trained sauna masters and involve larger temperature fluctuations than standard saunas. First-time sauna visitors should start with the milder indoor options and limit sessions to 10 to 15 minutes. The outdoor diving plunge pools follow the saunas; entry is gradual. The hotel is built in terraced levels on a hillside; some areas involve stairs or slopes. Free parking is available on site. The salt hill terrace areas and pool surrounds can be slippery when wet; rubber-soled bath footwear is strongly recommended. Check current pool availability on the official website before visiting, as sections may be partially closed for maintenance.
