The state's flat coastal-plain geology, dominated by young unconsolidated sediments over deeply buried crystalline basement, provides no mechanism for deep geothermal circulation or fault-driven hot water discharge. No historic hot or warm springs of consequence have been recorded in Sussex, Kent, or New Castle counties. Travelers searching for hot springs in Delaware, hot springs near Wilmington, or hot springs near Dover will find no in-state options. The nearest genuine hot springs are Berkeley Springs, West Virginia (approximately 3.5 hours by car) and Bath County, Virginia (approximately 5 hours).
