Michigan has no naturally occurring hot springs. The state's Paleozoic sedimentary basin geology and Pleistocene glacial cover do not host active geothermal circulation. A handful of 19th-century mineral spa resorts operated at Mount Clemens (Macomb County), famous for briny "healing" water in the era of the Great Lakes spa boom, and at Battle Creek, but these tapped cool artesian mineral or brine water rather than geothermal water. None operate as soaking facilities today. Travelers searching for hot springs in Michigan, hot springs near Detroit, or hot springs near Grand Rapids will find no in-state options. The closest true hot springs are Hot Springs National Park, Arkansas (approximately 12 hours by car), Berkeley Springs, West Virginia (approximately 8 hours), and Warm Springs, Georgia (approximately 14 hours).
