Hot springs in Louisiana

Louisiana has no naturally occurring hot springs. The state's Gulf Coastal Plain geology, dominated by young unconsolidated sediments over deep salt-dome basement, does not host surface geothermal discharge. No significant historic warm-spring resorts have been documented in the state. Travelers searching for hot springs in Louisiana, hot springs near New Orleans, or hot springs near Baton Rouge will find no in-state options. The closest true hot springs are Hot Springs National Park, Arkansas (approximately 6 hours by car from New Orleans) and Warm Springs, Georgia (approximately 8 hours). A number of New Orleans and Baton Rouge spa businesses offer heated mineral or Epsom soaking pools, but these are not naturally geothermal. Reviewed and updated June 2026. See our Southern regional map for the nearest genuine hot springs.
